Semiconductors that are used in computer and calculaters?

Calculators are amazing devices used for quick calculations.

They use semiconductors in two places:

-- in chips (widely known)

-- in display

A circuit board to perform calculations employ transistors, FETs, diodes, etc. These are made up of semiconductors.

Next, the important part is display which used Liquid Crystal Display. In modern day calculators, Twisted Nematic crystal display is used where voltage changes must be made to increase or decrease the amount of light passing through them to create numbers. Instead of using different plates for the 7 segments and supplying separate voltage for each of them, a single plate is used and semiconductor in the form of FETs is embedded in glass so that voltage of every segment can be controlled by the semiconductor device and a common voltage source can be used. Nowadays, calculators form characters other than numbers which requires only a selected area to be supplied with voltage. This is accomplished using semiconductors.
