Who built battle abbey?

Battle Abbey was commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1067 to commemorate his victory at The Battle of Hastings, which took place in 1066. The abbey was constructed on the site of the battle and served both as a religious institution and a monument to the Norman conquest of England.
