Ephedra is not safe to take with hydrocodone or with any other drugs for that matter. Ephedra is from the plant Ephedra sinica and is known in Chinese medicine as ma huang and is a component in Indian Tea or Mormon Tea. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the sale of ephedra-containing supplements on April 12, 2004 due to reports of many deaths. Ephedra causes irregular heartbeat, seizures, heart attack, stroke, and death in patients so it is not a safe drug to take.
