In media, a new name often reflects a new purpose or a new marketing strategy. Shalom TV began in 2006 as a video-on-demand service, and became so popular with viewers that it was able to transition into a 24-hour-a-day Jewish-themed channel in 2012. The new name was introduced in September 2014: its owners explained on the company website that changing the name is simply a "re-branding" strategy, a way to demonstrate that the channel has continued to expand its programming, gain more viewers both nationally and globally, and increase its influence in the Jewish community.
