If I lived 400 years ago, I might think the mouse in the cabinet came from the nearby fields or gardens, where it scurried in search of food. It could also have entered through a crack or opening in the wall, drawn by the warmth and shelter of the cabinet. Additionally, I might believe it was attracted by crumbs or stored grains, common in households of that time. In a world steeped in superstition, I might even think it was a sign or omen of some sort.
