The standard of living in Africa depends on the country. South Africa is one of the best developed in Africa. I am from South Africa and as you can see I have Internet and my own computer. Everything in SA is perfectly normal, just as in any other developed country. The only MAIN thing missing is probably good law enforcement and sufficient public transport. All the other African Countries aren't as bad as well (Ive been to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and Mozambique). Yes, its not NYC, but there are shops, electricity, telephone, cellphones, Internet, etc.Africa is poor due to colonisation as well as bad management which is a result of African traditions and different way of approaching issues at stake which differs and clashes with Western ways of doing things.a simple example would be; For some African cultures it is good to lie, because you protect yourself or someone else from the person who wants to know the truth. If I stole something and someone else wants to know who stole the item, it will be good for you to lie, because you are protecting me. - It differs from western ways of thinking.Africa is a very interesting continent. To determine the standard of living, rather google the country you are interested. I would suggest google social issues, such as housing, service delivery, the government website, etc. not the tourism pages.Like i said, the standard of living is determined by the different country. As we all know, Zimbabwe is down the drain and then you find many books on 'why Botswana prospered'.
