depending on make model and year i would guess a NEUTRAL POSITION SENSOR. (fooling your car to think its in neutral or park) have a qualified dealer or local mechanic just run a computor diagnostic code. cam and crankshaft sensors tho might throw off timming could add to this. relays are basicly electrical on/off. sensors are maintained by the computer in your car where signals are sent and told parameters of what to do. tho it could be a combination of things (i dont know your car) (even shift linkage) i still would check the NPS. good luck.
