with a bad economy,a lot of do it yourself shows, and the demise of oil based paints, prices vary . the best way these days is to charge 100 for every gallon of paint you use. you can adjust the price to fit your gas and tools needed and i alway add an extra hundred to the job because there is always something added or things took longer than estimated. you could charge by the sqare foot but again, always run into problems and if you burn yourself on labor or materials, you cant exactly tell the customer that for some reason i have to charge for extra square feet. right now i am painting a nursary for a person. she wanted the stained woodwork to be painted, 3 of the walls in hot pink, 1 wall in a darker hot pink with a clear coat with glitter. so thats 2 quarts for the woodwork, one gallon of the reg pink, one gallon of the other pink and glitter. roughly 2 and a half gallons of paint total. so @ 100 per gallon we got 250.00 plus my extra 100. 350.00 plus the cost of paint. in this case around 140.00
took me two 6 hour days. 490 minus paint... you made 350.
