Well it all depends on the time period that you are asking about. The USDA reports that Americans consume a whopping 150-170 pounds of sugar. That number includes glucose, sucrose and fructose. And get this! Less than one hundred years ago, people only took in about 4lbs per year. I think it's had such an increase because we have more accessibility to processed foods and simple carbs like soda, doughnuts, cakes etc.
