Who wanted Antonio to spend the summer with him in Bless me Ultima?

Gabriel Marez, Antonio's father, wanted Antonio to spend the summer with him so he could teach him the ways of the vaquero (cowboy) and pass down the Marez family traditions. Antonio's mother wanted him to spend the summer with her in order to learn and experience the ways of the Luna family.
