Can staples be used as a suture in lew of stitching?

Staples are commonly used in wound repair instead of typical stitches where the tissue is jagged and or missing. Stitches are usually used on clean straight insicions where are the tissue being repaired can be accounted ofr. Staples are stronger and tear less generally so when some of the flesh is missing they use them to pull the edges together to aid in the new growth of skin.
