Abraham Maslow', Hierarchy of Needs is a theory of human motivation that Maslowfirst proposed in 1943. Maslow contended that as humans beings meet 'basic needs', they seek to satisfy successively 'higher needs' that occupy a set hierarchy. While Maslow's theory has been highly regarded among theories of personality and motivation, it had its detractors. Manfred Max Neef for example argued that part of the condition of being human is living without poverty. .
