Who was Virgie Laird Thomas?

Virgie Laird Thomas was an American contralto singer born in 1899. She was known for her rich, powerful voice and performed on Broadway as well as in concert halls. Throughout her career, Thomas broke barriers for Black Opera singers and made significant contributions to the Classical Music world.
