How do piggy's glasses show civilization by lighting the fire?

I wrote a paper on this once. Piggy's glasses represent civilization by lighting the fire because it was viewed as a metaphor for coming out of darkness (the dark ages) into a time of light and reason (the renaissance). It can be seen as the development of mankind and civilization through out the ages.
