Is Stephen Colbert a Democrat or Republican?

In 2004 he said: "Listen, it's a secret ballot. Yeah, I'm a Democrat. I'm not asking anybody to vote for Democrats or Republicans. I say everyone should vote for both candidates -- except me. Just let me vote for Kerry. Then we'll be fine."

And in 2005.

Colbert, whose office is adorned with a 1972 Richard Nixon campaign poster, admits to being a Democrat. But, he says, "I'm not someone with a particular political ax to grind. I'm a comedian. I love hypocrisy."
