Alaric, the leader of the Visigoths, used a strategy of siege and negotiation to take over Rome in 410 AD. After a prolonged siege that weakened the city's defenses, he capitalized on the internal strife and political instability within Rome. Alaric's forces eventually breached the city walls, and he negotiated terms of surrender, allowing his troops to plunder the city while also seeking recognition and land for his people. This marked the first time in over 800 years that Rome had fallen to a foreign enemy.
