There's a lot of things to feed these beautiful cichlids, a varied diet is best. To vary their diet you should offer them some type of high quality pellet food as a staple diet but every 4-5 days you may feed them something else, a treat. These include bloodworms, earthworms (that have not come in contact with chemicals), frozen fish, crickets, meal worms, meal beetles, shrimp, krill, scallops, clams, squid, crayfish, crab, lobster, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, AQUATIC snails, tubifex worms, wax worms, and live feeder fish. If you buy feeder fish at a store they must be quarantined for at least 2 weeks to assure no diseases will be passed on to your beautiful Oscar. If you can try to introduce veggies into their diet, such as peas, carrots, Oranges, bell peppers, zucchini, squash, garlic, mango, pear, banana, blueberries, papayas, peaches, grapes, spinach, and leafy lettuce (romaine, iceburg has virtually no nutrition). Remember that if any of these foods are freeze dried, soak them to reduce swelling in the stomach. A varied diet is best but an Oscar can live healthily off pellets, but to increase happiness and healthiness, vary the diet.
