What is a bin number?

A bin number, or Bank Identification Number (BIN), is the first six digits of a credit or debit card number, used to identify the issuing bank or financial institution. It helps in processing transactions and can also assist in detecting fraudulent activities by providing information about the card type and issuer. Essentially, the BIN allows merchants to verify the authenticity of a card during payment processing.
