Is the Hovawart a good breed for inexperienced dog owners to own?

For first time dog owners, this breed may not be the most ideal choice. Hovawart dogs require continuous training, that is strict but loving. They are a working breed and so they need to be kept active constantly with dog activities. This breed is also very helpful in tracking, search & rescue and other working dog activities. Ironically, Hovawarts do not have the "eager to please" nature that most other working Dog Breeds have. They can think and act on their own, which is why you need to realize that the Hovawort does not work for you, but instead works with you. Therefore need to be trained by an expert, who can take a positive approach to reinforcing training and obedience. They can become reluctant to perform if their training consists of only punishments.
