Joan of Arc was a peasant girl who became a military leader and a symbol of French nationalism during the Hundred Years' War. Claiming to have received divine visions, she led French troops to several important victories against the English, most notably at the Siege of Orléans in 1429. Her efforts were pivotal in boosting French morale and supporting the coronation of Charles VII as king. Ultimately, she was captured, tried for heresy, and executed, later being canonized as a saint.
