Well I can't be absolutely sure about the 2002, but I got a 2005 and just replaced mine todday and heres what i did:
Things needed: Torx Driver 25 or 26 head can't remember. Pair of Needle Nose pliers.
Throttle Side - Use Torx driver to remove brake clamp from handle bars and just let it hang down till your ready to put it back. next use Torx driver to remove button/Control assembly. Now inside the assembly you will see how the throttle lines attach to the throttle grip in order for it to work. Pull them out carefully(their in their tight. This is where I needed the Nedle Nose pliers). Now pull the grip off. Next put the new grip on and do everything you just did in reverse. Put throttle lines in grip (once again using the pliers). Clamp Control assembly back on bars over edge of grip like the previous grip and finally put the brake clamp back on. Now the only doozy here may be if you have the factory grips on. these do not just slide off as I believe thery are glued so in that case you will have to cut the rubber part where it's glued(you'll see it.)
Clutch Side - Use Torx driver to remove Clutch clamp from handle bars and then the Control Assembly next. Simply pull off (or cut and pull off if it's factory grip) and put the new one on. Put the Control assembly back on but before tightening it down all the way make sure the grip is line up symmetrical with the other grip if theirs a design on it. Now tighten it and put the clutch assembly back on. Voila! Congrats your done!
