Is Alfred Nobel a peacful man?

In his lifetime Nobel was known as The Merchant of Death for selling explosives to any and all as long as the price was right. The idea of the Nobel Prizes was to whitewash that reputation by giving away a portion of his prophits as a philanthropic prize of Excellence, much as the yellow journalist Joseph Puliterzer instituted a prize for Excellence in journalism and letters.
