There are many different duites. It depends on the company. As the general manager for our company, I spend a great deal of my time reviewing design or architectural drawings, reviewing the schedule for shop drawings, purchasing, manufacturing, delivery and installation of woodwork. I review work in process to insure we are meeting the quality standards that we require, whether it be in the manufacture of cabinets, engineering the construction, our finish quality or the shop drawings. Assist department managers on problem solving. Supervise all office, plant department managers and field personnel managers. The typical general manager spends time on personnel matters, such as performance reviews, hiring, counseling, terminating employment, approving personnel transfers from one department to another, initiating training programs or cross training of personnel, insuring safety procedures are followed, accident reporting, reviewing job costing performance figures, reviewing estimates, establishing procedures for each position in the company and making sure those procedures are followed. I also am involved in tracking the estimating and sales figures for our company. I meet customers and visitors and conduct tours of the company to showcase our capabilities. Review design and engineering ideas with architects and designers to meet design goals while maintaining budget constraints.
