Who was St. Basil?

Saint Basil the Great was known for his care of the poor. He was a strong proponent of the Nicean Creed, and opposed the heresies. He was instrumental in defining the guidelines for manual labor, communal monasticism and prayer, He is recognized as a saint by both the eastern and western church.
