Who invented the breed of German Shepherd?

Max von Stephanitz is the founder of the German Shepherd Dog breed. His first dog, Hektor Linkrshein, whose name was changed to Horand von Grafrath in 1899, was used as the primary breeding stud and is the foundation of the German Shepherd Dog breed. On April 22, 1899 von Stephanitz and others founded the German Shepherd Dog standard and breed registry.
