Why is it important to wear a seat belt?

Analysis of road accident statistics and the evidence from crash tests showed conclusively that wearing a seat belt VASTLY reduces the chances of injury if you are in a car crash.

Given this evidence the law makers have passed laws requiring car drivers (and passengers) to use seat belt while travelling in a car.

Since these laws were enacted literally thousands of people have been spared horrific injuries (how often do you now hear about facial injuries caused by people being thrown into the wind shield) and society as a whole has benefited because people are not having to have medical treatment and time of work recovering from car accident injuries.
