What does a CNC lathe used for?

Lathes are made for many different materials, metal, wood, plastics, composites, etc., metal lathes can turn wood, plastic or many other materials and conversely speaking a wood lathe can do the same. I have turned on a metal lathe, metal, wood, plastic, rubber, composites. On wood lathes I have turned wood, metal, plastics, and composites. Note: turning metal on a wood lathe is misleading, spinning metal is the correct term, spinning on a wood lathe: having a form (usually wood) in the lathe and using a disc of metal pressed against the form, you burnish the metal disc over the form, many aluminum stock pots, lamp bases, etc. are made this way. But this is woodcrafts, I like to think a wood lathe reveals the beauty of nature in the woods of the world, many things can be made on a lathe such as: (linear in shape)Bats, Columns, Spindles,etc., for Vessels there's Bowls, Cups, Goblets, Plates, Vases, Boxes, (round) etc., and you can marry two or more dissimilar materials together to make one piece. For me a wood lathe is a piece of equipment for creating in the round.
