Elephants are a type of large mammal in the Elephantidae family. There are two different primary branches of elephants, including the African elephant, and the Asian elephant. Elephants can be found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Southeast and South Asia. The male elephant can grow as large as 13 feet tall and weigh in at 15,000 pounds. Additionally, the male elephant can grow large incisors known as tusks that not only make for a spectacle, but have put them on the list of top poatched animals as hunters seek the beautiful ivory that makes up these large tusks.
