Ladybugs are egg-laying insects which originated in all of the continents except for Antarctica. Various species have been introduced from one continent to another. The term "ladybug" is a North American Word; they tend to be known as "ladybirds" in Commonwealth countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and India.
