residential electrician ; covering the single family and multi-family dwellings electrical. generally voltages 240v and less.

commercial / industrial electrician ; covering the commercial and industrial , sometimes categorized as inside wire man, working with voltages in the extreme levels that are deadly to those who are not qualified. generally 120v and up to 13,800v.

lineman electrician ; categorized as outside , covering the transmission and distribution of utility power to residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. generally 4,600v and up to 375,000v .
