Rottweilers
Training may be required, but in my opinion they are the best guard dogs. They also have ears designed to look frightening. A rottweiler is the classic guard dog.
Dobermans They can be good guards, but with poor training become lazy.
Pit bulls They require a lot of training, but they have a frightening appearance and a tough bark, so no one messes with them.
Collies Good guard dogs when correctly trained.
German shepards Training is not always required, but if it is, it will be less than for a Rottweiler.
Alsatians They look and act much like a German Shepard, but are not as big.
English springer spaniels No proper training is required, but they are very smart and the owner can train them to be an even better guard dog. I myself have one, and i couldn't ask for a better guard dog. They are brilliant dogs and good pets, but because of their love of attention, they are not the best choice for a dog as only a guard.
King Charles spaniels From my experience, they work well when paired with an English springer spaniel.
Raiwolf: I'm not sure about THE BEST but ten extremely good guard dogs that I know of are: Rottweiler, Doberman, Belgian Shepherd (any kind), German Shepherd, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Hovawart, Bullmastiff, Bull Terrier, Chow Chow, Collie (smooth or rough)
P.S. I'm not quite sure where that guy ^ got king Charles spaniel from, you could easily just push them aside :P
Chow chows require grooming but are good for guarding and watching your home, or so i have heard
Any type of Mastiff breed. They are big, and with proper training can make a loyal watch dog, particularly the Neapolitan Mastiff
