Yes, you can increase your chances of finding a shiny. While it is usually set in stone at 1 out of 8192, by using an item called the "PokéRadar", you can find shinies quite easily. Using a process called "chaining", you must get as many Pokémon of the same type in a row as possible. If you're lucky, you can get a shiny (or several!).
