According to the Social Security Administration, Michael (65,386 births) and Jessica (47,887 births) were the most popular boy and girl baby names respectively in the U.S. in 1989.
The next most popular boy names were Christopher, Matthew, Joshua and David. Ashley, Brittany, Amanda and Sarah rounded out the top five girl names.
