Can p ammo be fired out of a 1911?

+P amunition can be used in most modern handguns. If you have an older gun consult a gunsmith prior to using it. +P is primarily used for self defense ammunition. It has higher pressures and faster bullet speeds. Sometimes that does not translate to better penetration.
