What battle during the Civil War forced civilians to live in caves?

The Battle of Vicksburg which was fought in 1863. The Union army besieged the city and subjected it to constant artillery fire, including siege mortars which fired 225lb shells. To protect themselves from the bombardment the residents of Vicksburg dug "caves" or improvised bomb shelters into the sides of the hills surrounding the town.
