Why are dragons sometimes know to be fierce?

Dragons are a predatory creature and are known to take the occasional bite out of wandering children and maidens chained to a rock. And for that we've gotten this whole fierce image - as if you couldn't spare one or two of those every now and again - like really your population seriously need curbing so what's wrong with us trying to help? And as for those knights in shining armor coming along and trying to stick lances into us - well what'dyou expect.

Hmm... If you're being honest, I'd suppose you're a dragon as well. Hmm... Which species? I've already got my eyes fixed upon staying single- forever. You know, we aren't all that way, some of us have actually figured out how to get around without needing to take a random bite out of a human. I don't eat humans, normally I go without, but then again, I don't really need to eat anything, anyway.
