It depends on what kind of horse show you're talking about. If it is a schooling show, safety and horse behaviour are more important than looks. If it is a championship show, go for authentic, rule following attire. If you mean a Western horse show, the horse should wear a flashy saddle and pad, and a bridle to match. Your clothes should be fairly flashy too, and you should make sure they go with the colors of the saddle and pad. You don't want to use a bright orange pad, a black saddle, and a neon green shirt and pants! Then you'll look like Aquaman! For an English show, it varies. Most English shows (show jumping, dressage, etc.) require you to wear a white shirt (for instance a ratcatcher) and a black or dark blue show jacket, plus riding breeches. All English shows require you to wear a helmet. English riders may wear jodhpurs and jodhpur (short) boots, or breeches and long riding boots. Some sort of tie, choker, bowtie or stock pin is also required. If you are riding saddle seat, a slight different attire than hunt seat will be required, and sometimes a bowler hat is permissible. Side saddle will be different, too. Wester riders look nice in dress pants and coordinating shirt, with a string tie if you like. If the weather is cool, you could wear a three piece suit style of button vest, and jacket if really cool. You may wear a helmet or western hat at most shows, especially if you are an amateur. Nice boots, cowboy boots if you have them. Driving classes would usually choose English attire, with a bowler hat and a lap cover. Refer to the rules of the specific show you plan to attend, by contacting a steward or organizing person of the show beforehand.
