Is England a nation state

no it is a county I happen to be English ,however it is part of Great Britain consisting of England ,Scotland ,wales and northern Ireland they all have there own governments but share one as well so it could be argued either way if you must but correctly it would be

ENGLAND IS A COUNTRY NOT A STATE OR PROVINCE

instead of states and provinces we have county's for instance I live in Hampshire close to the surrey border line
