Why are there video game ratings?

The ratings on Video Games are there so u know wat ype of content is in the game. I'm sure parents like that to so they can tell wat u are playing. *HINT* If u have or going to have a vidoe game console that can have partental controls set, set them with your own pin before your parents do!!
