Why did Boo Radley try to fix the pants?

Because even though Jem, Dill and Scout all thought he was a terrible person really he was a genuine morally conscious person who is respectful and kind to people. He fixed the pants to help Jem and ensure that he didn't get caught sneaking around the Radley's back garden.
