Why were cave men hairy?

Cave men, or early humans, were likely hairy as an adaptation to their environment. Body hair provided insulation against the cold, protecting them from harsh climates during the Ice Age. Additionally, hair may have offered some protection from UV radiation and insects. Over time, as humans evolved and adapted to different environments, body hair became less prominent.
