Wax and water don't mix because wax is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. Wax molecules are nonpolar, while water molecules are polar; this difference in polarity prevents them from forming hydrogen bonds or mixing uniformly. As a result, when combined, wax tends to float on the surface of water instead of dissolving in it.
