You won't always hear what you like from me, but you will get the truth.

To your question, (1) It depends on age, the best eaisest age is 7 months, but it will go backwards at about 9 months old when it be comes a stroppy teenager (Hoody). The Military don't buy their dogs until they are two years old, they are then stable and workable after that it doesn't matter how old it gets it's no harder or easier, yes you can teach an old dog new tricks. (2) It depends on the breed, Forget training a Ridgback to retrieve, or a beagle to herd sheep.

Give me the right dog for the right job at the right age, and I have been known to train an untrained dog for Obedience to a good standard in less than a day. Without you being trained first, It would probably take you months, It all depends on what standard you require.

To sum up, get yourself trained by a good trainer working with a trained dog first, before you attempt to train an untrained dog. You need to be able to talk to him without saying a Word, using the thought process, and body language.
