What happens in Italy with the volturi Alice edward and Bella?

Edward thinks that Bella killed herself, so he went to the Volturi in Italy to anger them. His plan: Go out in the sun at noon half naked so that he would sparkle, thusforth revealing the vampires for what they are. Of course, he had already made this decision, so Alice could see it. She told the entire Cullen family (and Bella) of his intentions, and then went to Italy to stop Edward's suicide.
