Is the accordion from the strings family?

It is not. The Accordian is often the squeezebox. You can play it by compressing or expanding a bellows whilst pressing buttons or keys, causing valves to open which allow air to flow across strips of brass or steel. It's a piano like keyboard and buttons to the left side.
