Fingers contain several types of joints, primarily the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints at the base of the fingers and the proximal and distal interphalangeal (PIP and DIP) joints between the finger bones. The jaw, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ), connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull and allows for movement necessary for chewing and speaking. Both types of joints are synovial joints, which allow for a range of motion.
