What forced labor is different from chattel slavery?

In contrast, chattel slavery is a legal status where individuals are treated as property, bought and sold, with no personal rights or autonomy. While both involve exploitation and a lack of freedom, chattel slavery is characterized by permanent bondage and dehumanization, whereas forced labor can occur in various contexts without the same legal ownership aspect.
