How do you change a 2004 4runner timing belt?

depending on what engine size you have, you may not have to change the timing belt!

i went through this delimma with my 04' 4runner. i have the 4.0 V6 Engine and it turns out this engine has a TIMING CHAIN and not a timing belt!

my mechanic told me the chain does not need changing unless it is rattling or making noise. i consider this GREAT news and $1,000 richer!

if you have the 4.7 liter engine, then you DO have a timing belt and I would recommend buying a timing belt kit from eBay or Amazon.com. this will save you big $$ over getting it from the dealership or from your local mechanic.
