What are the advantages and disadvanteges of the sun?

There is a huge advantage in the sun as a renewable energy source; we get vast quantities of free energy, pouring down upon the world in the form of sunlight, which makes possible the growth of green plants (without which we would all starve) as well as photoelectric power, and which keeps the world warm; without it, the world would get so cold that the atmosphere would freeze and we would all suffocate if we hadn't already frozen to death.

The disadvantage is that the sun does not come with a dimmer switch. If the world overheats, this is very hard to correct.
