Exact actions will vary dependent on the firearm and the circumstances. In MOST cases- keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Wait 30 seconds. Attempt to place weapon on safe, remove magazine, draw bolt back and lock, place on safe, examine chamber for conditions that may have caused misfire. However, under COMBAT conditions (you are being shot at) Immediate Action consists of Slap, Rack and Roll. Slap the bottom of an external magazine to insure it is fully seated, and the follower is not stuck. Rack the slide briskly to the rear, and hold it. Roll the firearm towards the ejection port to help release any unejected cartridge. Release the slide and allow it to move forward at its own speed.
